Rudi Völler has had quite a year.
The legendary footballer was tasked with helping rebuild the German national team as the DFB’s director of football and now that the squad’s first major tournament is over, Völler can reflect on his biggest accomplishments — re-energizing German fans.
“The team has managed to create this euphoria in Germany, which was almost unimaginable in the past weeks and months. Even for me who experienced a lot, it was something special. It was unique. It was our goal and our dream a few months ago,” said Völler (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “It was an extraordinary performance yesterday. We came back from 0-1 down in the end, which would have been impossible months ago. We want to continue exactly this way.”
Völler and head coach Julian Nagelsmann will work together to keep the national team moving forward. Clearly, things are headed in the right direction, but there is much work to be done.
