Lucas Paqueta has apparently really thrown the cat amongst the pigeons for the powers that be at West Ham United.
West Ham star Lucas Paqueta has experienced an incredibly tough year, after it emerged that he was being investigated for his role in potential betting breaches in the summer of 2023.
Then, just a couple of months ago, it was revealed that the Hammers star was actually charged for the alleged offences.
If Paqueta is found guilty, he reportedly could receive a lifetime ban – something that would obviously be a disaster for both him and the club.
However, it was claimed by Jacob Steinberg that the word he’s hearing out of the London Stadium is that the 50-capped Brazil international WILL be playing for West Ham next season.
Paqueta has received big support from Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui amidst the ongoing investigation into his potential involvement in the betting scam (WHUFC.com).
West Ham have stood by the former Lyon man through thick and thin over the past 12 months, and that surely has to count for something…right?
Maybe that’s just a naive view on the game today, and more specifically the modern generation of footballers.
It seems like the 26-year-old might just want to get out of East London as soon as possible…
Lucas Paqueta makes big West Ham decision
Paqueta has been a magnificent player for us, since moving to the London Stadium from Lyon in the summer of 2022.
He is somewhat of a rare commodity the game in this day and age in the sense that he is a maverick – someone who plays by his own rules and acts on impulse rather than instructions from his manager.
The South American plays with one goal in mind – to entertain the fans who have parted with their hard earned money to watch him in action.
It has been a joy watching the Brazilian in action for the Hammers over the past two years, but could we already have seen him in a West Ham shirt for the final time without realising it?
It seems like that may well be the case.
According to Brazilian football journalist Vene Casagrande, Paqueta is now actively looking to leave the London Stadium this summer.
However, West Ham are not entertaining the idea of selling him, or loaning him out right now.
One would imagine that Manchester City won’t be lodging a bid for him until his betting case has been cleared up.
Meanwhile, Flamengo surely won’t be able to afford a deal to sign the 26-year-old.
As much as Lucas Paqueta might want to leave West Ham, I just don’t see any alternative viable options for him this summer.
He might not want to stay at the London Stadium, but as things stand that will be his ONLY option.
