This is a really tumultuous time for Ligue 1. Incredibly, with the start of the next season just over a month away, the top footballing division in France still does not have a broadcaster. An inability to find a broadcaster could mean a quick descent to bankruptcy for many French teams, who are still reeling due to COVID related financial issues. But even if a broadcaster is found, Ligue 1 is losing leverage fast and the offers will continue to get cheaper.
Therefore, when addressing rumors about Desiré Doué, linked to a host of different clubs including Bayern Munich, Stade Rennais sporting director Frederic Massara immediately spoke of the finances. As captured by @iMiaSanMia, Massara insisted that, as of now, their financial situation does not force their hand: “Today, Stade Rennais has the means to say no to any offer. If huge offers come to the table, that needs to be considered case by case. Today there are no offers.”
Massara also claims that the 19-year-old Frenchman also does not wish to leave: “The player has no desire to leave, there are no negotiations at the moment. Having the chance to have talents observed by the whole world and bringing big offers is truly fortunate.”
BFW Analysis
Considering the numerous rumors linking Doué to the likes of Bayern, Tottenham Hotspur and Paris Saint Germain, that may be difficult to believe. Especially if the report he had already flown to Munich to talk with Bayern’s representatives is true. This seems like a negotiating tactic.
As for what it means for Bayern, Doué would likely not arrive in Munich for cheap. How concrete Bayern’s interest in the fleet footed, mazy dribbler is remains unclear, but considering how the Bavarians have already added Michael Olise and are pushing hard for Xavi Simons, it is difficult to see how signing a third attacker could feasibly work.
