In the wake of Benjamin Sesko’s decision to remain with RB Leipzig for at least one more year, much of the reporting around Arsenal has suggested the Gunners are no longer looking to sign a striker.
The general perception is that Arsenal saw Sesko’s signing as an opportunity too good to pass up, but with a move for the Slovenian off the table, they’ll look at other areas of the pitch instead.
Yet Fabrizio Romano claims that’s not necessarily the case.
Writing in his Daily Briefing, Romano reports that the situation is still open, and no decision has been made on whether Arsenal go for a centre-forward this summer.
It will reportedly depend on the opportunities available to the Gunners, though there is still nothing close or concrete with regards to Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres.
If the right player becomes available this summer, Arsenal could still look to sign a striker. That’s just evidently not the case just yet.
Arsenal do appear to be showing a lot of flexibility with regards to the summer transfer window.
When one target becomes unavailable, the club pivot to another, as we’ve seen with Jorrel Hato signing a new deal at Ajax only for the Gunners to pursue Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna instead.
Perhaps that’s the advantage of already having a strong squad. Arsenal don’t desperately need a player in any one position, so they can afford to be patient and wait for the right option.
