According to a report from Bild journalists Tobi Altschäffl and David Verhoff (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich will not put star winger and Germany international Leroy Sané on its “sale” list or the summer transfer window:
Bayern are planning to keep Leroy Sané. The player was not informed that he’s a candidate for sale. The exchange between Max Eberl, Christoph Freund and Sané, is still good. Bayern are still planning to extend Sané’s contract if possible.
Further talks are planned. Only if Sané gives the signal that he does not want to extend his contract, then Bayern would consider selling him. But that’s not the tendency. On the contrary, Sané can well imagine playing under Vincent Kompany for many years if things work out for both sides. In fact, Bayern have a plan under Kompany to play with Olise on the right, Jamal Musiala at No. 10, and Sané on the left. Sané’s departure is currently not a topic.
This report runs counter to what came out of Tz on Thursday.
BFW Analysis
Thursday’s report from Tz did come as a surprise to many who have been following Sané’s contract situation. Naturally, it was met with skepticism, but — at the same time — it could be conceivable given the rumored cost-cutting measures being explored by the front office.
Sané’s second half of the season and his EUROs performance were each thoroughly disappointing. While it is true that Sané has been battling an injury or multiple injuries, his unwillingness to rest or do so without fear of creating an issue with coaches is not something that can be tolerated if Bayern Munich is to make another big investment in him.
If he does re-up with Bayern Munich, it can be assumed that he will have to take a pay cut from his current €20 million salary. While it remains doubtful that he will leave Bayern Munich, Sané’s future might not exactly be as clear-cut as once thought.
