When Bayern Munich signed Sacha Boey in January from Galatasaray, it was widely regarded as a panic transfer that the the club simply did not have to make. 6 months and multiple injury issues later, those people are yet to be proven wrong. To add insult to injury, fellow right back Josip Stanisic came back from loan at Bayer Leverkusen with a Bundesliga medal in his back pocket and was immediately rewarded with a new ling term contract.
However, new Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany believes that the French right back can overcome his current difficult situation and play an important role next season. According to Tobi Altschäffl and Christian Falk, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Kompany is a “big fan of Boey”, having tried to bring the former Stade Rennais player to Burnley twice already. This appreciation of Boey’s talents could see him play a much bigger, more important role than last season’s injury riddled one.
Can he shake off his recent injuries and fulfill the potential that saw the likes of Arsenal FC and Paris Saint Germain keen to add him to their squad? Hey, he is from the Rennais academy. Those guys always end up coming good.
