According to a report from Sport Bild journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s salary budget slashfest is well underway and each new signing falls under a specific threshold as the club seeks to help plan financially for the future:
None of Bayern’s new signings so far this summer (Palhinha, Olise, Itō) earns more than €12m gross per year, which is part of the club’s new strategy to reduce the wage bill.
The new regime led by Max Eberl and Christoph Freund has been rumored to be eyeing a cutdown with salaries, perhaps even asking some existing players to take pay cuts as their current deals are nearing an end.
Big clubs typically are not looking to have widespread cutdowns in this day and age, which could be a bad sign for the Bavarians. At a time where Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Manchester City, Arsenal FC, Paris Saint-Germain, and other big clubs looking to use their financial power to lure players, Bayern Munich might be banking on other factors to help convince current players to stay and new players to join.
Will it work?
