The more time that has passed, the more it has looked far more likely that Alphona Davies would be leaving Bayern Munich this summer. The club was unwilling to agree to pay the high salary wages he and his representatives were asking for with a new contract at the club, knowing full well there has been heavy interest from Real Madrid.
However, Madrid have been unwilling to meet Bayern’s asking price of around €60 million, which is only slightly over his current market value of €50 million, as per Transfermarkt. At this juncture, Bayern have just accepted the scenario of Davies running down the final year on his contract and letting him leave as a free agent come next summer, which is the same thing that happened to David Alaba just a few summers ago. Davies’ contract is set to expire in June of next year and he has not signed an extension since the spring of 2020.
Per new information from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl, Davies’ agent, Nick Huoseh, attempted to attach a release clause of €150 million to a potential new contract at Bayern (via @iMiaSanMia). As a standalone, a release clause that high would give Bayern assurances since they would be making a lot of money if that release clause was ever triggered while also knowing that high fee would help the player stay at the club for a longer period of time. The release clause was not the only thing brought to the negotiating table by Huoseh, though.
There was also a request to have Davies receive a salary increase. Huoseh laid out terms that he wanted his client to make €16 million per year and also get a sign-on bonus of €15 million. This is more than Bayern was ready to offer, especially considering they are going through a bit of a mini squad overhaul under new manager Vincent Kompany this summer. It has become clear that Bayern’s only option at this point is to just let Davies run down his contract unless another club would come in with a big enough offer this season.
Currently, Davies makes roughly €11.25 million per year, which is less than all of Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Müller, Leroy Sané, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Leon Goretzka, Kingsley Coman, Matthijs de Ligt, Michael Olise, and Kim Min-jae.
