Transfermarkt have updated their market values post-EURO 2024 and the results are what we expect. Bayern Munich youngster Jamal Musiala is now the most valuable player in the Bundesliga, rubbing shoulders with Florian Wirtz at €130m. RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo, who helped Spain win the Euros this summer, also sees a market value bump to €60m, putting him just shy of the top 5.
Here’s the current list of the top 10 most valuable players in the league (via Transfermarkt):
- Jamal Musiala (Bayern Munich) — €130m.
- Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) — €130m.
- Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) — €100m.
- Leroy Sané (Bayern Munich) — €70m.
- Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich) — €65m.
- Dani Olmo (RB Leipzig) — €60m.
- Loïs Openda (RB Leipzig) — €60m.
- Michael Olise (Bayern Munich) — €55m.
- João Palhinha (Bayern Munich) — €55m.
- Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig) — €50m.
The #10 spot is actually quite crowded, with five players all valued at €50m. Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong, as well as FC Bayern’s own Kingsley Coman, Joshua Kimmich, and Alphonso Davies round out the top 10.
Major takeaways
- Despite winning the league title, Bayer Leverkusen have surprisingly few players rated within the top 10. Xabi Alonso is demonstrating a masterclass in how to make the best of what you have, but you can also make the case that Leverkusen’s talent is being undervalued by the website.
- Bayern Munich dominate as expected, but it’s the two Premier League signings that tip the scales in the top ten. This once again shows the dominance of the EPL in the global transfer market — Olise and Palhinha would just barely sneak into the top 50 in the Premier League market value list, and only Wirtz and Musiala would count as top 5. Harry Kane, who is the 3rd most valuable player in the league, would be 7th if he still played in England.
- João Palhinha is the only midfielder in the top 10 — this either indicates that midfielders are undervalued by Transfermarkt, or that the Bundesliga no longer has top level midfield talent. Which one is it?
- Xavi Simons, currently at PSG (but expected to move this summer) is the most valuable player in Ligue 1 at €80m. He’s a major transfer target for Bayern Munich this summer, and his acquisition would stack the top 10 even further in Bayern’s favor.
- Matthijs de Ligt’s stated market value is far higher than the number Manchester United are willing to pay for him (~€50m, if the media is to be believed). If Eberl and Freund are serious about raising money from player sales, they should steer clear of deals where the player is clearly being undervalued. Jonathan Tah, for comparison, is only rated at €30m, but Bayer Leverkusen are playing hardball and refusing to accept a cut-price offer from Bayern Munich — as they should.
