After a saga that dragged on for over a year, Nestory Irankunda has finally joined Bayern Munich, settling in well from a sporting perspective by scoring a goal for Bayern II in his very first friendly. But how has he settled in on a personal level? Speaking to FCBtv, as captured by @iMiaSanMia here and here, Irankunda spoke about his first days in Munich: “I feel good. I’m very happy to be here and get started pretty early and try to build up my fitness and my skills.”
At the time, the former Adelaide United player had only spent a day or two in Munich, so he was not too familiar with the squad. Still, that didn’t stop him from interacting with some of the guys: “I’m pretty settled in with few of the boys here. Aséko [Nkili], I’ve been chatting to him. Not too much, but I’ve known him.”
Somehow, the bustling city of Munich is quiet to him, at least in comparatively: “I did go to the city and I went around to a few stores. I already like it here. It’s not too loud compared to Australia. It’s pretty quiet and I’m enjoying it already.”
And how is his German? “I used to learn German at school in Australia. But I forgot most of it because I was young. I started my first lesson yesterday.” Does anyone remember the additional languages they learned in school?
Finally, he gave Bayern fans a little hint at what they can look forward to next season: “I’m fast, I got power. When I’m off the mark, straight away, from here I get there. I can shoot. I can score goals but set up goals as well. So yeah, a power winger.”
