Atletico Madrid have lodged an opening bid for West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd, with the Spanish side keen on securing the Moroccan’s services on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
The Hammers are open to the possibility of parting ways with Aguerd, provided a mandatory purchase clause is included in the deal. The 28-year-old has shown glimpses of his potential since joining from Rennes but has also endured inconsistent form and injury setbacks.
Atletico have been monitoring Aguerd’s progress and believe the defender could thrive in La Liga. The Spanish club have made an initial approach, but negotiations are still ongoing as both sides look to agree on the terms of the deal.
The Irons are expected to reinvest any funds generated from Aguerd’s sale into strengthening other areas of the squad as Julen Lopetegui looks to build a competitive team for the upcoming season.
