After an early flurry of activity, Bayern Munich has gone nearly a month without any new transfer activity. One might be forgiven for thinking Bayern could be done with signings for the window, but that is not the case. Speaking to Maximilian Koch, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, Dreesen suggested that the club is not yet done: “We are in the middle of squad planning – together with the coach. We still have a month of transfer market ahead of us – and a few things will happen.”
So what are these things Dreesen mentioned could happen? Comparing the signings made by the club to the players sold, it is clear that Bayern Munich need to sell. Add board member Uli Hoeness’ comments on the matter to the mix and it becomes even more clear to many teams in Europe that Bayern needs to sell. Dreesen, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, does not bother to hide this fact: “Both buying and selling are part of the business. It’s not only this year that we want to sell players. If you look at last year and the years before, we also sold players. It’s part of the business. Otherwise many players won’t play and young players won’t get a chance. Some signings take weeks and are not easy. And the same goes for selling players, it’s also not always easy.”
It is certainly important to allow the young players to get a chance in the first team, particularly when this year’s group is so talented. But if that is to happen, those sales need to be completed.
