According to a report from Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg, Leon Goretzka is determined to convince the Bayern Munich coaching staff and club bosses that he is worthy of a key role on the squad for the 2024/25 campaign:
Leon #Goretzka, with one goal against Tottenham tonight.
29 y/o midfielder can leave FC Bayern with a suitable offer and Max Eberl has also communicated this to his management.
But: Goretzka doesn’t want to leave the club this summer. He’s motivated and wants to stay. A transfer to interested clubs like Atlético is not a topic for him. He is also not engaging in talks or negotiations with other clubs.
Goretzka wants to prove himself under Vincent Kompany. Contract valid 2026.
Essentially, Leon Goretzka is “Rick-rolling” Bayern Munich with his intentions. It is admirable that Goretzka wants to prove his doubters wrong and battle. The 29-year-old took this approach last season and eventually did show Thomas Tuchel that he was a vital piece to the Bayern Munich puzzle.
This season, however, it does appear as if Goretzka has too steep of a hill to climb to win. By all accounts, though, he is determined to “never say goodbye.”
