All of a sudden, a bidding war emerged around Bayern Munich winger Bryan Zaragoza.
Valencia was thought to be the leader in the clubhouse to secure the 22-year-old on a loan assignment, with Girona as a longshot. Lo and behold, though, Osasuna swept in to disrupt the move and is now the frontrunner.
Here are the latest details surrounding the situation per Sky Sport journalists Florian Plettenberg and Kerry Hau (via @iMiaSanMia):
Osasuna are advancing to hijack Bryan Zaragoza’s loan move to Valencia. Osasuna are in direct negotiations with Bayern and have very good chances of reaching an agreement over a season-long loan deal without an option to buy. The Spanish side would pay a loan fee and cover a high portion of Zaragoza’s salary.
Bryan Zaragoza’s Bayern salary is around €4-5m gross per year. Osasuna are willing to cover a big part of the salary.
El Chiringuito TV reporter Marcos Benito (via @iMiaSanMia), Osasuna is “one step away” from getting Zaragoza on a loan:
Bryan Zaragoza is ‘one step away’ from joining Osasuna on loan. Negotiations took a turn this morning – and Valencia are now unlikely to be the player’s destination due to the financial conditions of the deal.
There is a bit of a discrepancy to the report. Per Capalogy.com, Zaragoza is set to make €6.6 million this season (plus a €1.8 million bonus), while the Sky Sport report indicates Zaragoza makes €4 million to €5 million. Whatever the case, it is not significant enough of a difference (€2 million to €3 million) to create a stir.
The fascinating part of the reports is how Osasuna swept in at the last minute and might have pushed Valencia to the wayside.
