It is not every day that Bayern Munich signs a head coach off of Burnley, let alone one that got relegated in his only season in the Premier League. So when Vincent Kompany is asked if he can handle the expectations at Bayern, where the club goes into every game expecting to win, the query is not exactly unfair. But Kompany does not see the jump being as big as most do.
After all, he says, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, the desire to win remains as hot as ever: “Why would you change your mindset because you’re working at a different club? You should always want to win every game. I’ve always been like that, since the youth level. I was born with that mindset. The club can’t have higher expectations than I have of myself. I think we fit together very well.”
It is easy to say this before Bayern is launched into a gauntlet of games in the Bundesliga or Champions League and pressure starts coming from every side to be perfect. But as long as he can maintain higher expectations of himself than even the club can, then perhaps he will be alright.
