Joshua Kimmich is someone who can play multiple positions to varying degrees of success. Last season, he finished the 2023/24 campaign in his old position at right-back. Under the guidance of new Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany, the Belgian manager is still trying to figure things out.
“So far I’ve only trained and played in central midfield. That’s the plan for now. Generally speaking, he (Kompany) knows, I know, we all know that I can play both positions [possibly referring to being a right-back]. The coach decides where it ends up,” Kimmich said (as captured by Sky Sports Germany via @iMiaSanMia).
Despite Kompany in the process of sorting the team out, Kimmich pointed out that the coach is very structured. “We can see it’s very important to him that the content reaches us and that we understand it,” the 29-year-old said. “We had a few video sessions and he made very clear what’s important to him. I think we managed to implement a lot of that in the Tottenham game. He’s very motivated and prioritizes the team spirit.”
