Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany is taking some time to get to know all of his players at this stage, but it has been difficult to spend much time with the likes of Harry Kane and Alphonso Davies, who just returned to the squad after their respective vacations.
When asked if he chatted with Kane about England’s painful loss to Spain at this summer’s EUROs, Kompany said that he had not as of yet, but did state that he could relate to the feeling of being a team leader and having lost such an important match.
“No, but he’s been a captain and a leader for club and country for so many years. My wife is English, so of course I wished him well. My kids are English as well in the way they respond at the moment so, of course, I wished him well as the captain of England. But then after a defeat, I think he’s a leader himself, so he’s probably been the guy that has been helping all the people around him to get over this. I have no doubt that that will give him extra motivation as well,” Kompany said during an interview with Bundesliga.com.
Surely, Kane and Kompany will have plenty of time to get reacquainted in the coming days and might even be able talk over the best way to rebound from the type of disappointment that Kane experienced earlier this summer.
