Another game, another victory, thought it was the same opponent. Bayern Munich faced Tottenham Hotspur for the second time in seven days and yet again came out on top with a one goal margin, this time winning 3-2.
Though the first two friendlies in Bayern’s schedule were looked at less than favorably, the consecutive victories over Tottenham and more importantly the football played in both games were genuine signs of progress.
The first game proved Bayern’s ability to implement Vincent Kompany’s tactics to win a game, the second proved the team’s ability to repeat it. As Kompany said after the game, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, the Bavarians took yet another step forward: “It was only a test game, but the mentality was right. Of course it’s always good to win, but so much can happen in a game like this when you make so many substitutions. We’re still in preparation, but the most important thing was that we took another step forward. Now we move on to the next one.”
The next one will take place against Austrian Bundesliga side WSG Tirol on the 13th of August, shortly before Bayern starts the season. How many steps can Bayern still take before the season starts? And is the progress made so far enough? The two wins against the Lilywhites suggest positive answers to the two big questions.
