It was slightly underwhelming to see Harry Kane miss the first of the two friendlies scheduled against Tottenham Hotspur as a result of his transfer to Bayern Munich and only play 10 minutes of the second friendly, but it did allow the Lilywhite legend to soak up a lot of affectionate applause as he entered the field of the White Hart Lane for the first time in over a year…alongside poor fellow substitute Adin Ličina, who looked so awkward hearing all the applause that was clearly not aimed at him.
The connection between Kane and Tottenham was a topic Bavarian head coach Vincent Kompany addressed after the game, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, alluding to his past playing experience with Manchester City to empathize with Harry Kane and the strange emotions he must have felt returning to the white part of London. Here were Kompany’s thoughts on the matter:
“It was a good game for him. I know what it means when you’ve been successful with a team for so long. I know that success is not always just about titles, but sometimes also about what you have done for people. It’s nice that he got this game. Now we move on. We have a team with a lot of good players and we are fully motivated.”
The task for Kane will be to make the trip from London to Munich again, to attack with the new season the motivation Kompany spoke of and finally end it with some glory. But not before basking in the triumph of winning the …VisitMalta Cup?
