Dueling reports indicate that Germany national team star Jonathan Tah’s future could be clarified soon. Will the 28-year-old continue at Bayer Leverkusen, or make the move to Bayern Munich?
Sky Sport journalist Florian Plettenberg says that from Leverkusen’s side, the deal is open:
⚫️⚠️ As reported in recent days: Leverkusen boss Simon Rolfes now confirms that a transfer of Jonathan #Tah to FC Bayern is NOT off ✔️
Rolfes re-opens the door for a deal after Bayern let a deadline set by #B04 pass on Thursday without matching Leverkusen’s asking price of €30m: ⤵️
“The transfer window runs until August 30th. Of course, we have ideas and know what we want to do.”
“I am not responsible for the financial situation of other clubs. Our stance is clear: Jona is an important player. He played a good game today (against Betis Sevilla) – very concentrated, focused, and that’s how he trains as well.”
Nothing has changed: Tah wants the move! Eberl, Freund, and Kompany are still keen to sign him if the supervisory board permits two more signings.

However, a report from kicker (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) indicates that Bayern may not make a move for another center-back — even after the impending departure of Matthijs de Ligt to Manchester United:
Bayern have no plans to replace Matthijs de Ligt. Five players from the current squad can play at centre-back: Dayot Upamecano, Kim Min-jae, Eric Dier, Hiroki Itō (who will be fit again in October) and Josip Stanišić. Jonathan Tah will not be signed under the current conditions demanded by Leverkusen, several sources have confirmed to @kicker. Unless something unforeseen happens, Tah is currently no longer a topic at Säbener Straße [@FrankLinkesch]
So what will it be? If reports from throughout the transfer window are to be believed, Tah has many admirers at Säbener Straße — and it could be just an attempt by Bayern to indicate it is negotiating from a position of strength. However, the Bavarians would have to really be willing to walk away — and head into the season with five players at center-back, one of them injured, and two of them also providing depth at the fullback positions.
