Earlier this week, there was a lot of talk on social media about a possible Arsenal move for Darwin Nunez, with some Twitter users claiming the Gunners were interested in him – and that he wanted to leave Liverpool.
The rumours gained enough traction for the story to make it into the mainstream media, but only in the form of express denials.
Alex Crook of talkSPORT reported on Wednesday that claims linking Nunez to Arsenal are “wide of the mark”. Fabrizio Romano added on Thursday morning that he doesn’t know where the story has come from, but there is “nothing” in it.
Romano went one step further, insisting that Nunez isn’t even planning to leave Liverpool, let alone join Arsenal.
The forward is reportedly focused on Liverpool and happy with his current manager. A move this summer has never really been on the cards.
Nunez scored 18 goals and assisted 13 for Liverpool last season, before helping Uruguay to a third-place finish with two goals at Copa America over the summer.
The 25-year-old has since returned to Liverpool, where he has 18 minutes of substitute appearances for the team in their opening two Premier League fixtures of the new campaign.
