First of several deals? Wolves confirm signing of England international
© Reuters
Wolverhampton Wanderers have strengthened their goalkeeping ranks with the signing of Crystal Palace goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
Over the past week, it has been well documented that the West Midlands outfit have been trying to acquire the services of Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale.
However, once it became clear that the two clubs would be unable to negotiate a deal, Wolves switched their attention to a fellow England international.
Johnstone arrives at Molineux on a four-year deal, seemingly to compete with long-standing number one Jose Sa between the sticks.

“It just feels like you’re in a family club, and that’s what it’s about,” Khan told the club website.
“I want to be in an environment where I feel like I can develop as a player and as a person and I think it’s the right place to do that.”
Manager Nigel Adkins added: “We are pleased to add the influential midfield player Saidou Khan to our close squad of hard-working players.”

Bristol Rovers sign Gatlin O’Donkor on loan from Oxford
Striker O’Donkor joins Rovers on a season-long loan move from Championship side Oxford United!
— Bristol Rovers (@Official_BRFC) August 30, 2024
“It feels amazing to be a Bristol Rovers player,” said O’Donkor. “I can’t wait to get out there and show people what I can do. Speaking with the manager, I feel the way he wants to play really suits me. I just can’t wait to get out there.
“Bristol Rovers has always been a tough place to go. Obviously, the way the fans are, they’re always backing the team. They make it a tough place to go for teams, so I can’t wait to be a part of that.
“I just want to give 100% every game and score as many goals as I can. Promotion is the end goal for every team in the league, so we’ll see how that goes.”
Manager Matt Taylor added: “We are pleased to welcome Gatlin to the Club. Despite his young age, Gatlin already has good experience in the EFL and he added to that with a loan move in the National League in the second half of last season.
“We are looking forward to working with Gatlin and helping him improve on his own game throughout the remainder of the season.”

Major PSR boost: Chelsea to sell prospect to Strasbourg in near-£18m deal?
© Imago
Chelsea are reportedly planning to sell Deivid Washington to Strasbourg in order to generate funds before the end of the summer transfer window.
Heading into deadline day, the Blues are attempting to strengthen their forward ranks, seemingly with the acquisition of either Victor Osimhen or Ivan Toney.
As it stands, though, it appears more unlikely than not that either deal will get completed given the interest that there is in both players from Saudi Arabia.
Nevertheless, co-owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital are also in a position where they are eager to boost the club’s position with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability regulations, either through sales or loans.

Neal Maupay completes Everton exit with Marseille loan move
We can confirm Neal Maupay has left Everton to join Olympique de Marseille on loan for 2024/25, with an obligation to buy the forward at the end of the season.
— Everton (@Everton) August 30, 2024
“Neal Maupay has left Everton to join Olympique de Marseille on loan for 2024/25, with the French club having an obligation to buy the forward at the end of the season.
“Maupay moves to the Ligue 1 side after spending the 2023/24 campaign on loan with one of his former clubs Brentford.
“The 28-year-old Frenchman joined Everton in August 2022, making 32 appearances for the Blues and scoring one goal.”
Deadline day drama! Toney ‘set’ for Saudi move in huge Osimhen twist
© Imago
Saudi Pro League giants Al-Ahli have apparently come to an agreement with Brentford over a move for Ivan Toney, mere moments after it was reported that they were closing in on Victor Osimhen‘s capture.
Toney has been omitted from Brentford’s first two Premier League squads this season on account of his uncertain future, having entered the last 12 months of his deal with Thomas Frank‘s side.
Back in January, it appeared that a £100m battle was brewing between Arsenal and Chelsea, but the Gunners quickly dropped their interest as Brentford were forced to dramatically drop their asking price.
There had been little movement in Toney’s situation before deadline day, although all of Chelsea, Manchester United and Al-Ahli were believed to have been keeping a close eye on developments.
“We could act” – Will Liverpool sign anyone on deadline day?
© Imago
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has affirmed that he does not expect any new players to arrive at Anfield on transfer deadline day, but the club will be open to the right “opportunity”.
At the start of the Premier League season, Liverpool were the only English top-flight side not to have made a single signing, although they have now added two new faces to their ranks.
A bargain £10m deal for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa was secured on Thursday, and the Reds have also signed Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will join Slot’s squad in 2025.
However, Liverpool have failed in their efforts to sign a new defensive midfielder, having made a desperate attempt to sign Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, only for the Spaniard to show unwavering loyalty to the La Liga side.
Slot’s double blow: Liverpool ‘miss out’ on two defensive targets
© Imago
Liverpool are reportedly set to miss out on two of their rumoured defensive targets on deadline day, including a former Arne Slot star.
The Reds have been expected to reinforce their backline throughout the summer window, having seen Joel Matip leave the club at the end of his contract in June.
Long-serving captain Virgil van Dijk is also only contracted to the club for another season, and the Dutchman remained tight-lipped when asked about his future last weekend.
In addition, Joe Gomez has been linked with a move away in recent weeks, although the Englishman is likely to remain at Anfield beyond the 11pm deadline, while Ibrahima Konate has struggled with injuries during his time at Anfield.

“I have had a smile on my face since I’ve been here. I’m excited and thoroughly buzzing to be here – I can’t wait to get started,” he told the club website.
“I think everyone in the football world now knows just how big of a Club this is, and where it wants to be.
“Ever since I heard about the project that has been going on here, it has been on an upwards trajectory. Over the last couple of years it has been a Club that has really come through and since hearing about all of that and speaking to the gaffer, it made my decision very simple.
“I scored my first professional goal here, and when I came here it was an unbelievable place to play at. The fans are incredible, every single seat was filled. The atmosphere was rumbling and the stadium was absolutely buzzing – to finally be a part of that, It’s unbelievable.”
Manager Phil Parkinson added: “I’m delighted to welcome Mo to the Club.
“He’s an exciting young striker and has had a really good progression in his loan moves in the last couple of seasons; we’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Pay up: Spurs ‘struggling’ to agree 28-year-old sale
© Reuters
The future of Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso reportedly remains up in the air, as the Lilywhites are not accepting Real Betis‘ current deal conditions.
The Argentina international was expected to secure a permanent move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer, only to stay and try to prove his worth to Ange Postecoglou.
Lo Celso only momentarily succeeded in that regard, scoring two goals and setting up two more in 22 matches in the 2023-24 Premier League season, and he has not played once competitively so far this season.
As a result, the 28-year-old has inevitably been tipped to finally end his ill-fated North London stint this summer, and a return to Spain has been strongly mooted before the transfer window slams shut.
Sensational swap back on? Chelsea ‘receive major Sancho boost’
© Imago
Juventus have reportedly ended their interest in signing Jadon Sancho from Manchester United, offering Chelsea fresh hope in their efforts to bring him to Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old was unexpectedly re-integrated into the Red Devils squad in pre-season, having buried the hatchet with Erik ten Hag following their falling out a little under 12 months ago.
Sancho featured regularly for Man United in pre-season, but the winger has been left out of the Red Devils’ squad for their opening two Premier League games against Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion.
There is seemingly no end to Sancho’s competitive exile, and with the clock ticking on deadline day, the former Borussia Dortmund man is expected to complete a permanent move elsewhere in the coming hours.
Chelsea crushed: Blues ‘beaten’ to top striker signing by Saudi giants
© Reuters
Chelsea are supposedly set to concede defeat in the race for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who is on the verge of joining Saudi side Al-Ahli.
The Blues have been in hot pursuit of the former Lille man throughout the summer transfer window, and his future remained clouded in uncertainty as the clock ticked down on transfer deadline day.
Paris Saint-Germain were originally believed to have been Chelsea’s biggest competitors, but in spite of an injury to Goncalo Ramos, the French champions are not pursuing a deal.
Instead, Chelsea were facing an intense battle with Saudi giants Al-Ahli to sign Osimhen, whom Napoli are apparently ready to sell to the Middle Eastern powerhouses for below his £113m release clause.

Arsenal’s goalkeeper situation

What of Arsenal‘s goalkeeping situation?
Aaron Ramsdale is nearing an exit having lost his place to David Raya last season, but before the green light can be given for that, the Gunners must bring in a replacement.
That could be imminent, with reports suggesting that they have agreed terms with Bournemouth‘s Neto for a loan deal.
The first domino on deadline day could be about to fall!

What to expect from deadline day?
© Imago
As has been the case all window, and for many of the past windows since Todd Boehly‘s takeover, Chelsea have stolen many of the headlines as the highest-spending club this summer, and their business is not done yet.
A new striker is on their agenda, with Victor Osimhen thought to be their top target and Ivan Toney considered an option too.
There are also likely to be quite a few outgoings from the Blues’ bloated squad – most notably Raheem Sterling, who has brutally been told that he won’t get any minutes under Enzo Maresca, and Ben Chilwell, who has been linked with a number of clubs, the latest of which is Brentford.
Manchester United are expected to complete the signing of Manuel Ugarte, Newcastle could make a FIFTH attempt to prise Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace and many, many more deals are likely to be done too!
