West Ham United enjoyed a sensational summer transfer window, with Tim Steidten working overtime to ensure Julen Lopetegui got the players he wanted.
Tim Steidten joined West Ham as the director of football back in the summer of 2023 – a full 12 months before Julen Lopetegui arrived at the London Stadium.
The Hammers are undoubtedly in a better position now with the German and the Spaniard working in harmony together.
The West Ham manager brought nine new players to the London Stadium in the summer, assisted of course by the director of football.
In addition to all of those new signings, Tim Steidten assured Lopetegui that he would not lose West Ham’s three best players – Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Paqueta and Mohammed Kudus in the summer.
And Tim clearly kept his promise!
The 45-year-old has made major changes at the London Stadium, and he obviously has a very driven mindset.
Tim Steidten sets challenge for West Ham new-boy
Steidten has played a key role in transforming the Hammers into a proper outfit, both on and off the pitch.
The German is obviously an incredibly ambitious man, and he clearly wants West Ham to fulfil the huge potential we have as a club.
Some of the exciting signings made by Steidten and Lopetegui in the summer were evidence of just how far we’ve come.
One of my personal favourites out of the nine new arrivals was Crysencio Summerville – a £20 million signing from Leeds (Florian Plettenberg).
It has already been claimed that Kalvin Phillips played a key role in Crysencio Summerville joining West Ham in the summer.
And after the deal was completed, Steidten set the 22-year-old a big challenge.
The Athletic have lifted the lid on a conversation shared between Steidten and Summerville on a private jet back to London from Amsterdam.
“It was Summerville’s exchange with Steidten that proved critical.“
“Having travelled to Amsterdam on a private jet, Steidten challenged Summerville to become a success like Mohammed Kudus and Edson Alvarez on the flight back to London. He outlined why being average would not be good enough and the need for the forward to develop into a top-tier signing.“
That is superb motivation from Tim if you ask me, and I fully expect the 22-year-old to live up to the high expectations on his shoulders.
Will Crysencio Summerville be a hit with West Ham
In my opinion, he has absolutely everything needed to be a huge success with the Hammers.
He possesses blistering speed, and that pace is something we really need in the attacking department.
I actually believe that the end goal could well be to have Jarrod Bowen play through the middle, Mohammed Kudus out wide on the right, Lucas Paqueta in the number 10 role and Summerville in the left wing position.
Summerville plays with real fearlessness, and his directness when running at goal will provide us with something unique and completely different.
Lopetegui will give the former Leeds man time to adapt to his system and footballing philosophy at the London Stadium, there’s no doubt about that.
When everything comes together though, and he’s fully up to speed, he will be a tremendous player for the Hammers, mark my words.
Crysencio Summerville has a bright and prosperous future ahead of him at West Ham United.
