Julen Lopetegui brought nine new players to West Ham United in the summer transfer window.
It was a thrilling summer for the West Ham fans, and Julen Lopetegui deserves huge credit for getting his business done in such an extremely ruthless and efficient manner
Whilst nine new players arrived at the London Stadium, the same amount departed, although a lot those were on loan deals.
Lopetegui oversaw a huge squad overhaul at West Ham in the summer, and we’re in a much better place now because of it.
In addition to the brilliant recruitment, the Hammers head coach managed to keep hold of his star trio – Jarrod Bowen, Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta – Tim Steidten promised him he wouldn’t lose any of them.
West Ham seem to be on the right path to achieve great levels of success in the future with Lopetegui at the helm.
But what do the fans really think about the summer business conducted by the 58-year-old?
Julen Lopetegui’s two best and two worst West Ham signings
The summer window just gone was one of the most exciting and successful that I have witnessed as a Hammers fan.
If Lopetegui had signed an explosive young striker and a pacy left-back, it would have been a 10/10 window.
However, it was still an 8.5/10 as far as I’m concerned, at the very least. Some of the signings Lopetegui made were truly spectacular.
The Athletic conducted a survey after the summer transfer window slammed shut, asking the Hammers fans about their thoughts on Lopetegui’s summer transfer business.
They were asked who were the best signings made by the Spaniard.
And the results make it very clear what the fans are thinking.
Max Kilman and Aaron Wan-Bissaka received 47.4% and 41.5% of the votes respectively.
Then came Crysencio Summerville, Guido Rodriguez, Jean-Clair Todibo and Niclas Fullkrug with 4.8%, 3.7%, 2.1% and 0.5% of the votes respectively.
Luis Guilherme and Wes Foderingham didn’t even register a percentage of the votes, so the Hammers fans clearly view those two as Lopetegui’s worst signings, whilst Carlos Soler hasn’t played for us yet so it would have been unfair to include him as an option.
I actually agree with Kilman and Wan-Bissaka being our best signings, but I think Guilherme will come good for us in the future, and Foderingham was only signed to make the numbers up in training!
We all just need to be patient with every single one of the summer signings. The future is very bright for West Ham with Julen Lopetegui at the helm, I’m convinced of it.
