Musician Noel Gallagher has revealed that he declined an offer from West Ham to sit in the directors’ box during their match against Manchester City. Gallagher, a lifelong Manchester City fan, preferred to maintain his “casual attire” and watch the game from a hospitality area.
Some more amusing reports appeared to suggest that Gallagher was offered the chance to sit in the posh seats by Karren Brady and that the club could supply a shirt and tie. I’m not entirely sure how much of the fine detail is accurate but the other half of Oasis is believed to have scoffed at the chance to wear the formal clobber.
When you think of Oasis, it’s impossible not to associate them with Manchester City, a club that they’ve had such a massive impact on over the years. Noel Gallagher’s decision to prioritise his personal comfort over the formality of the directors’ box was being used as a some sort of signal to broadcast his working class roots but it was poorly timed.
The band have recently reformed and announced their upcoming tour which was eagerly anticipated by fans. Unfortunately, they have faced accusations of ripping off their fanbase by charging too much for tickets and bleeding their loyal supporters for every penny. Sounds familiar.
