The summer transfer window just gone was an incredibly prosperous one for West Ham United.
Julen Lopetegui made some terrific signings for West Ham in the summer, and we definitely have a better squad now than when he took over.
The West Ham head coach brought in nine new players, and got rid of much of the deadwood at the London Stadium.
It has actually been claimed that the Spaniard is still in the market to bring in at least one more signing on a free transfer.
There are clearly more additions needed at the London Stadium, if we are to compete for the top six in the table consistently and have any chance of winning the cups.
It seems like Lopetegui wanted one more signing this summer, and you will not believe who it was…
West Ham made move to sign Adrien Rabiot
Adrien Rabiot was released by Juventus back in July, and the Hammers apparently tried to bring him to the London Stadium.
L’Equipe claim that West Ham tried to ‘seduce’ the French midfielder in the summer, before he decided to move elsewhere.
Marseille are now closing in on a move to sign Rabiot, according to BBC Sport, so our hopes of bringing him to the London Stadium are more or less dead in the water.
The former Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain is a player who’s steeped in winnertivity. He is one of the very best at what he does.
Rabiot would have been an incredible signing for the Hammers, in spite of the criticism he has received for his poor attitude in the past.
The fact that we even tried to sign the Frenchman proves just how ambitious we are as a club now.
What a signing Rabiot would’ve been for West Ham
The 29-year-old’s career so far has already been incredibly trophy laden.
He has six league titles to his name and an astounding 22 trophies in total in his cabinet.
With 48 international caps for France to his name, Rabiot is a supremely cultured central midfielder.
Rabiot is one of the best passers in the game, and his ability to receive the ball from his defenders under real pressure can’t be matched by many players in the game.
The midfielder would have complemented Edson Alvarez and Lucas Paqueta perfectly in the middle of the park.
Sure, West Ham missed out on signing Adrien Rabiot in the end.
However, the fact we were even in the race for his signature is hugely encouraging as far as i’m concerned.
