Some West Ham supporters have been underwhelmed by what they’ve seen so far under Julen Lopetegui but Everton give some perspective.
West Ham fans know their team is a work in progress under new boss Julen Lopetegui.
Sean Dyche cannot use such excuses having been at Everton since January last year.
The Hammers were warned off parting company with David Moyes as many pundits and journalists said he was as good as it will get for them.
Lopetegui is tasked with proving that isn’t the case for West Ham.
Meanwhile Dyche and the current owners are the latest to prove the Moyes theory right at Everton.
Although Everton fan reaction to growing Moyes rumours proves West Ham probably made the right call.
Life after Moyes for West Ham and Everton?
West Ham fans who called for change in the summer were warned ad nauseum to ‘be careful what you wish for’.
And what Hammers supporters are wishing for is yet to materialise under their new boss.
West Ham fans wanted a modern, attack-minded manager who presses the opposition and plays to win.
The likes of Guillem Balague reassured Hammers sceptics that ‘one of the world’s best’ Lopetegui could be that man.
So far many are yet to notice any significant difference.
West Ham have lost two, won two and drawn one in all competitions so far.
Rock bottom Everton show things could be far worse.
But after a £155m summer splurge on nine signings, Hammers fans understandably expect to see progress as Lopetegui looks to succeed where Moyes failed by combining style with substance.
Underwhelmed by Lopetegui press? Wait until you see Everton
One journalist told Lopetegui there has been no difference under him at West Ham so far.
There have been glimpses here and there of improvement at the London Stadium.
While appreciative that it may take time for Lopetegui to get his ideas across, many observers have been asking where is the much-hyped high-intensity pressing game they were promised.
West Ham fans underwhelmed by the Lopetegui press wait until you see Everton.
After the draw at Fulham last weekend one national newspaper journalist went in on the Spaniard.
The journalist said West Ham are like a collection of high-end sports cars wasted on a pensioner.
There have been moments in matches so far where West Ham have pressed effectively.
But it has been all too fleeting.
Now some much needed perspective has been provided by Premier League rivals Everton.
Think West Ham’s press is bad just two months into Lopetegui’s tenure?
Wait until you see Everton’s 20 months into Dyche’s.
A Toffees supporter has posted a video of Everton’s so-called pressing from the Carabao Cup defeat to Southampton in midweek.
If that footage doesn’t make you grateful for where West Ham are in their development, nothing will.
Yes Lopetegui needs to improve many things.
But West Ham are lightyears ahead of what Everton supporters are having to watch.
Sometimes it takes seeing the plight of others to appreciate what you have.
