West Ham United play host to Chelsea in the Premier League at the London Stadium tomorrow lunchtime.
Julen Lopetegui will be praying for a win against Chelsea tomorrow, with West Ham having taken just four points from our opening four Premier League games.
Paul Merson has predicted a 1-1 draw tomorrow, and that wouldn’t be a bad result for the Hammers at all, given Chelsea’s quality.
However, a win really is needed. Lopetegui needs patience and time before we start to see the fruits of his labour, but that doesn’t mean that he’s immune from criticism.
His starting lineups have been wrong in three out of the four Premier League games so far this season in my opinion.
That has to change tomorrow if we are going to get the win at the London Stadium.
And it seems like we may well have a good chance of doing exactly that.
£33.5m Chelsea star will miss West Ham Premier League clash
The Hammers have some doubts for tomorrow’s game, including Emerson Palmieri who faces a late fitness test.
However, Chelsea have their own problems as well.
It was reported earlier this week that they could be missing up to six players for the Hammers clash.
And now Blues boss Enzo Marseca has provided an update on one of those players.
The Chelsea chief spoke to the Blues’ official website, and provided an injury update on Malo Gusto.
He said, “‘In terms of players who aren’t available, Malo is still out and Reece is still out.“
Gusto a big miss for Chelsea against West Ham
Chelsea signed Gusto from Lyon for €40 million (£33.5 million) in January 2023 (ESPN).
The 21-year-old has been described as ‘world-class’ by Football.London, and he is crucial for Chelsea, especially with Reece James out injured as well.
There is no doubt that Gusto will be a major miss for the Blues, and now we have a real chance to target them down their right-hand side.
Whether it’s Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta or Crysencio Summerville who plays in the left wing position remains to be seen.
But whoever it is, needs to really force the issue tomorrow.
The West Ham vs Chelsea Premier League clash kicks off at 12:30 and is live on BT Sport.
A really big game this one is.
