It feels like Real Madrid has been teasing an Alphonso Davies transfer for years now, and none of the parties involved are being very informative about it.
In recent interviews, Davies leaving Bayern Munich and staying at the club have both come up at different times. Nothing was ever made concrete, and we will never know until the Canadian is actually in the white Madrid kit. In the most recent interview, Davies was asked yet again about his future at the German club.
“My full focus is on this team. I’m playing here for Bayern Munich now and that’s what I’m concentrating on. I want to win every game. That’s why I’m not thinking about it at the moment. Regardless of whether I stay or leave the club, I will always carry this club in my heart,” Davies said (via Michel Schroer, captured by @iMiaSanMia).
This was the most media-trained answer any footballer could have possibly given, and the saga drags itself on.
“That’s a good question, you’ll have to talk to my agent about that. My focus right now is on winning every game. I’m not thinking about the other topic at the moment,” said Davies when he was asked about a possible contract extension, also revealing nothing, because his agent reveals nothing either.
Elsewhere, in Spain, Ferland Mendy has extended his contract at Real Madrid. A lack of a left back was one of the reasons Los Blancos would have signed Alphonso Davies, however, now that they have re-upped Mendy, they may not need the Canadian’s talents in the Bernabeau.
