Luis Guilherme has scored his first West Ham goal as the Hammers’ under-21s came from two goals down to draw with Benfica B in the Premier League International Cup.
The £20m Brazilian is still waiting for serious senior action with the first team and was wisely used in an under-21 game that saw the Hammers produce an impressive second-half comeback.
Guilherme scored with an excellent finish to make it 2-1, following an audacious chipped through ball from Dan Rigge. The Brazilian had drifted into a central position and collected the lofted pass before shooting high into the net with a powerful finish.
Brad Dolaghan played a role in Guilherme’s goal and scored the equaliser himself to make it 2-2. Special mention must go to goalkeeper Mason Terry, who produced an amazing man-of-the-match display that kept the Hammers in the game and in a position to fight back.
The run-out may not have been what was sold in the brochure upon joining West Ham, but the minutes and goal will do the player the world of good and should keep his fitness levels up.
