West Ham United lost 5-1 to Liverpool in the Carabao Cup last night, and Jamie Carragher absolutely ripped into one of our players.
We will not be winning the Carabao Cup this year, after Liverpool dumped us out at the third round stage.

And Jamie Carragher thinks there was only one man to blame for West Ham‘s defeat to his former club Liverpool.
Julen Lopetegui looked forlorn on the sidelines, especially after he pulled his calf muscle when he was gesticulating to Crysencio Summerville in the second-half.
These are worrying times for West Ham right now, and Lopetegui needs to turn things around very quickly indeed.
There were moments last night when we actually looked pretty decent, but one player let us down according to Carragher.
One man to blame for West Ham defeat to Liverpool, Jamie Carragher says
It was a tough night up on Merseyside for the Hammers, as it is almost every single time we go up there.
However, there was a time during the game when I actually fancied our chances of progressing through to the next round.
However, the match ended with Liverpool winning 5-1 – a scoreline that really flattered them.
Carragher chose to highlight the negative impact that Edson Alvarez had on the Hammers’ hopes of winning against the Reds.
He was given his marching orders with around 15 minutes still to play at Anfield – a point in the game when we had a real chance of scoring an equaliser.
Alvarez was absolutely awful against Liverpool, and the tackle he made before getting sent off was an embarrassing display of his lack of discipline.
Carragher was commentating on Sky Sports and criticised Alvarez’s role in West Ham’s defeat (Wednesday September 25th, 9:48pm):
He said, “Of course, they weren’t helped out by the fact they went down to 10 men. For a 10 or 15-minute period, it looked like West Ham were going to get back into the game.”
I agree with Carragher there. Alvarez’s lack of discipline cost the Hammers dearly, and it’s something he needs to address asap.
Edson Alvarez needs to focus on improving
We all love a battler at West Ham, but the 26-year-old is just letting us down with his reckless behaviour right now.
19 yellow cards and one red card n 48 games for the Hammers tells us all we need to know about his lack of discipline.
Alvarez lets us down time and time again with the way that he needlessly flies into tackles – it’s faux passion in the extreme.
There’s a way of showing that you’re passionate and committed, and it’s not the way Alvarez is going about things right now.
Jamie Carragher thinks Edson Alvarez let West Ham down during our Carabao Cup clash with Liverpool last night and he’s bang on the money.
I expect to see a big turnaround from the Mexican when he returns from suspension. And if he can’t get his disciplinary problems in check, we may as well just try to sell him.
