West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek made a jaw-dropping admission after our draw with Brentford.
But he made a really surprise suggestion after the game, and I actually felt sorry for him after he said it.
Tomas Soucek‘s importance at West Ham should not be underestimated – club captain Jarrod Bowen recently highlighted just how vital the Czech midfielder is to this team.
When the 29-year-old joined the Hammers, he played a key role in the club progressing on to another level entirely.
He is a true warrior in every sense of the word, and has every single quality that the West Ham fans usually love.
However, he has received his fair share of criticism from some sections of the fanbase so far this season.
Tomas Soucek makes staggering admission about West Ham fans
The battle-hardened 29-year-old midfielder saved a point for the Hammers once again today, as he has done so many times before.
Soucek’s never-say-die attitude is crucial for us in away games like the one today when the chips are down and our backs are against the walls.
The 6ft 4in Hammers ace spoke to reporters after the game against the Bees, and made a really sad admission.
Soucek suggested that he’s heard that some West Ham fans don’t like him, as quoted by BBC Sport.
“When the fans sang my song, I know I have a great connection. In the last few weeks, in my country, the media said the West Ham fans did not like me.”
I don’t think that could actually be further from the truth, I really don’t.
There are, of course, fans who don’t want Soucek to start every single week, myself included. However, he’s still a hugely popular figure in East London.
Tomas Soucek a cult hero at West Ham
The big Czech Republic international is not a good footballer technically, we all know that.
However, one thing that cannot be questioned is his commitment to the cause when playing for West Ham.
Soucek gives absolutely everything whenever he takes to the pitch for the Hammers, and he often puts his head in places where many others wouldn’t.
The former Slavia Prague man is a true warrior, and he certainly puts in more effort than a lot of other Hammers players.
The 29-year-old wears his heart on his sleeve, and when he doesn’t play for us we definitely miss not only his aerial ability, but his battling qualities as well.
It’s ok for West Ham fans to criticise Tomas Soucek’s technical ability and his poor quality in possession of the ball, whilst praising his attitude and commitment at the same time.
The two things are not mutually exclusive, and Soucek has to realise that he is far from disliked at the London Stadium.
