Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka, and Leandro Trossard were all included in WhoScored’s Team of the Week after the Gunners’ win over Leicester City at the weekend.
Sam Hammond explained that Calafiori put in a “strong all-round showing” making two key passes, two successful dribbles, three accurate long balls and three tackles.
Saka made the team despite not recording a goal or assist, making eight key passes and eight successful dribbles, both of which were the highest tallies in a game this season. The winger also made two tackles and four ball recoveries.
And Saka only failed to record an assist on a technicality. He created Arsenal’s third goal, but Trossard’s strike went down as an own goal.
As for Trossard himself, Hammond highlighted the Belgian’s first-half goal, two key passes, and two successful dribbles.
Yet none of the three made it into Troy Deeney’s BBC Team of the Week, nor Alan Shearer’s Premier League Team of the Week.
That should be surprising, considering the dominance of Arsenal’s performance. For the Gunners to be completely overlooked in both teams doesn’t really align with the record-breaking nature of the display.
