Armando Broja’s career has been painful to watch up close. It’s been a repeated case of hopes being dashed by tragedy.
Cast your mind back to his days in the Chelsea academy and he really wasn’t that highly rated. There were a lot of players that people fancied more than him, that’s for sure.
But an exceptional loan spell at Vitesse came out of the Blue and raised expectations, and a bright flash in the Premier League at Southampton after that kept raising his profile.
From that point onwards, sadly, it’s been a case of injury after injury costing him form, playing time, and now finally his place in the squad. He’s been sent on loan to Everton for the season – but even that almost fell through after an Achilles injury we didn’t even know much about cropped up in his medical.
Broja just looking for one lucky break
The good news – and boy does he need some – is that the move didn’t fall through in the end. Everton were willing to take the risk, even knowing that the Albania international would be out for some time.
According to Simon Johnson of the Athletic, they might be about to finally get some reward for their patience. Broja is “stepping up his recovery” and hoping to play in around a month’s time. That will give him this upcoming international break and a little time after to join his teammates and get up to speed.
The Toffees are in big relegation trouble despite a win last weekend, and adding a regular scorer to their team would make a huge difference. We don’t want to get our hopes up for Armando again after the last few years – but this truly is a great chance for him if he can get fit and firing again.
