Karren Brady probably realises she is not the most popular person among West Ham fans but she’s just been handed a big reminder.
Supporters have some very strong views on West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady.
But no matter where you stand, there is no denying the Baroness has done an excellent job when it comes to turning around West Ham’s finances.
The club was in a complete mess financially when she arrived in east London with majority owner David Sullivan and the now passed David Gold back in 2010.
Now West Ham are one of the top 18 most lucrative football clubs in all of Europe.
The list of grievances Hammers supporters have with Brady – who once referred to them as “customers” – is long, though.
Whether it’s the move from Upton Park to the London Stadium and how that was handled.
Or her regular columns in The Sun in which she used to discuss West Ham affairs in too much detail for the liking of fans.
Right now the Hammers faithful are up in arms over the ticketing situation at the club.
Supporter groups launched a petition after season ticket prices rose above the rate of inflation and the club scrapped new concessions.
West Ham fans have been protesting using black balloons at matches. Liverpool supporters even joined them when the two teams met recently.
The balloons are emblazoned with the words ‘Stop exploiting loyalty’ and ‘Save Our Concessions’.
West Ham fans destroy Brady after big announcement
While there is once again unrest on the terraces, there’s unrest in the dressing room too with new boss Julen Lopetegui having a widely reported row with Mohammed Kudus.
That comes amid a poor start on the pitch with the Irons winning only one Premier League game so far this season.
The Hammers vice-chair tried to cut through the negative narrative around West Ham this week.
But West Ham fans destroyed Brady on social media after a big redevelopment announcement.
The Baroness unveiled detailed redevelopment plans for the club’s award-winning Foundation headquarters, set to re-open in Spring 2025.
The £4.1-million “state-of the-art” project has been spearheaded by West Ham, alongside Borras Construction and Adams-Sutherland Architects.
It will see the footprint of the current building treble. West Ham say that will enable the Foundation to serve thousands of children, young people, adults, families, elderly residents and hard-to-reach groups and individuals, doubling the current 2,000 weekly participant footfall in the process.
But when West Ham posted a video presentation by Brady as part of the announcement, the club’s fans did not hold back.
Many Hammers tore into the vice-chair, with many accusing her of hypocrisy and saying she has destroyed the club with the concessions and pricing issue are the forefront of the criticism.
