The EFL have confirmed their Team of the Round for the third-round League Cup fixtures held over the last few weeks, in association with WhoScored.
The competition organisers had to hold off on announcing the team until after Newcastle United’s rescheduled match against AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, but with all matches now finally completed, they’ve confirmed their 11 picks.
Included in the side is Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, after the youngster scored a brace against Bolton Wanderers last week.
Nwaneri received an 8.48 rating for his performance against Bolton, his first start for the Arsenal senior side.
The youngster completed 93% of his 28 passes, won a couple of tackles, created two chances, and scored with his only two shots, so it was a very positive evening overall.
Arsenal went on to win the match 5-1, and Nwaneri’s stock rose sufficiently for Mikel Arteta to throw him on in the weekend fixture against Leicester City, with the Gunners in desperate need of a goal.
Arsenal have gone on to draw Preston North End away from home in the next round of the cup, so you’d think Nwaneri will be in with a good chance of another start in that match.
