Danny Ings has to go down as one of the worst signings West Ham United have made in recent years.
The thing is, it’s not all his fault that he has failed to establish himself at West Ham.
Danny Ings has never been suited to the way that we play, both under David Moyes and Julen Lopetegui.
I do feel for the 32-year-old. He scored a last-gasp equaliser for the Hammers against Fulham a couple of weeks ago, but then was completely ignored by Lopetegui for our clash with Chelsea seven days later.
He must know that his time at West Ham is coming to an end, with a London Stadium exit either in January or next summer almost a certainty.
West Ham tried desperately to shift Danny Ings in the summer, but were unsuccessful in doing so in the end.
And now, it may well be a case of just letting his contract run down.
West Ham hierarchy have made a big Danny Ings decision
The former Aston Villa, Southampton, Liverpool and Burnley striker has experienced a really challenging 21 months or so with the Hammers.
And it now seems like his time at the London Stadium will almost certainly be up very soon.
According to Football Insider, his contract will not be renewed when it expires in the summer of 2025.
That’s because the Hammers hierarchy believe that Ings is not of Premier League standard anymore.
That’s no shock really is it. He has looked well off the pace almost every single time he’s taken to the pitch for the Hammers.
His time is clearly done in East London. It’s just such a shame that we wasted so much money on signing him last year.
Danny Ings has proven to be a terrible signing for West Ham
The Hammers signed Ings from Aston Villa for £12 million (Evening Standard) in the 2023 January transfer window.
Unfortunately for him, he has desperately failed to establish himself at the London Stadium.
The experienced hitman has just five goals in 56 games in all competitions to his name for West Ham so far.
As mentioned earlier, the West Ham team has never been set up to get the best out of Danny Ings.
He is a striker who thrives on playing alongside a partner up front – a luxury that has never been given to him.
It will be best for him to move on from West Ham in the summer of 2025, and hopefully he will serve as a lesson for the Hammers in future about signing strikers who are not suited to the system that the manager deploys.
