Jhon Duran was a transfer target for West Ham United in the summer but sadly, we missed out on signing the Aston Villa striker.
West Ham signed Niclas Fullkrug instead, and as the German has struggled, Jhon Duran has gone from strength to strength for Villa.
Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten settled on bringing the 31-year-old to the London Stadium in the end, despite the fact that the Colombian hitman was trying to force through a move to join the Hammers.
Jhon Duran did the ‘crossed hammers’ sign during a live stream, and he was literally there for the taking for us.
However, West Ham weren’t able to meet Villa’s demands for the 20-year-old in the end – believed to be north of £40 million.
Lopetegui and Steidten must be regretting their failure to bring Duran to the London Stadium now.
Every goal that he scores for Villa makes the decision to bring Fullkrug to the club look even worse.
And now, new information has emerged that will make the Hammers fans even more angry about the club’s failure to bring the Villa man to East London…
talkSPORT host’s Jhon Duran info will make West Ham fans furious
Numerous claims have been made about the Hammers’ attempts to sign Duran from Villa in the summer.
It has been claimed that Villa were asking for £40 million plus for the fleet-footed forward.
However, could he actually have been picked up for less than that amount?
It certainly seems that way. talkSPORT host Andy Goldstein has opened up on something he’s heard about the Hammers’ failure to bring Duran to the club.
Goldstein shared some information he’s heard about West Ham’s pursuit of Duran in the summer, when speaking live on talkSPORT (October 3rd, 4:14pm):
He said, “I’m led to believe that the reason West Ham didn’t get him is because they’d only pay 30 [million] for him and not 35 [million]. The rest is history.”
If true, that is beyond frustrating.
I was angry before that we wouldn’t cough up £40 million, but to miss out on him because of a mere £5 million is extremely annoying.
Now it’s very much a case of what could have been…
Jhon Duran the one that got away for West Ham
Things would be so different now, had Lopetegui managed to bring the Colombian to the London Stadium.
There is so much doom and gloom around the club right now, but I’m convinced that would not have been the case, had we managed to sign Duran.
The 20-year-old possesses blistering pace – something that we desperately lack up front right now.
He plays with real enthusiasm, has terrific movement and is incredibly explosive.
Listen, Fullkrug may well come good at the London Stadium in the end, and he certainly deserves time to prove himself.
However, it’s obvious to see that Jhon Duran would have been an exceptional signing for West Ham.
And if what Goldstein is saying is true, the Hammers owners not going the extra mile to sign the striker for just £35 million is simply unforgivable.
