Though Liverpool won 1-0 against Crystal Palace to stay top of the Premier League table on Saturday, there was some bad news on the injury front for manager Arne Slot.
Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister was forced off at half-time, before goalkeeper Alisson had to be withdrawn in the 79th minute.
Giving an update on the Brazilian after the game, Slot didn’t seem particularly optimistic.
“With Alisson it is clear he will be out for maybe a few weeks,” Slot said, adding: “If a player walks off like he does, that normally means he’s not in the Brazil squad, and I don’t expect him to be in the first game afterwards.”
Asked whether Alisson could feature in Liverpool’s upcoming matches after the break, with the team due to face Chelsea, Leipzig, and Arsenal next, Slot answered:
“Unfortunately Ali will not be with us in those matches I assume, if I saw how he walked off the pitch.”
As for Mac Allister, Slot confirmed that the withdrawal was another injury, but said it was “difficult for me to judge in this moment”.
The manager suggested the midfielder could have continued playing, but he would have risked aggravating an injury.
Given we still have three weeks until Arsenal host Liverpool on October 27th, you’d think Mac Allister could make it back in time for that game. But it seems Alisson’s participation is a long shot.
