Our strength is our aggression, our weakness is our aggression. We seem to play on the physical edge, but it makes our games a great watch.
On Saturday I thought Leicester learnt to beat our press, in particular leaving Buonanotte in acres of space. Additionally, their goal was from the left side losing all shape.
Under Eddie Howe and Gary O’Neill, we had partnerships and patterns of play eventually carving out chances. Now we have good players playing aggressively, winning the ball high, with numbers forward. We have quantity but less quality of chances. After the first 15 min yesterday I never really thought we would score.
Semenyo on Saturday looked a bit like Eze this season – trying to do too much, not inter-passing.
Senesi – how he only got booked in the 85th minute is beyond me. It is amazing how he comes into midfield so often and so aggressively, to “close down” when opponents beat the press. And recovers when by-passed.
Christie – his shooting has come on massively. Unlucky not to score against the Saints and on Saturday.
I was highly comforted seeing both Dango and Sini coming on, but neither was as incisive as usual and maybe they got in each other’s way.
If Evanilson hadn’t made a show of having scored, it might have been less likely to be disallowed.
Great to see Zabarnyi having an impact at corners and free kicks.
After the match, AFC Bournemouth head coach Andoni Iraola told Sky Sports…
“Overall I think we were better. We had more chances and missed clear chances. You have to take them at this level.
“We had a mistake with their goal, with the one-two. We pushed them a lot but if you don’t score, today can happen.
“You have to score and be efficient. Overall we played quite well and threatened more than them. It is what it is.”

Not ruthless enough. We only have 1 player (Semenyo) with a killer instinct in the area and it’s what will be the difference between a top-10 finish and bottom third. Shame because otherwise, it’s great fun watching us play.

Shocking finishing. Too many players who play football well but have next to no end product. Leicester are a very poor team.
I like Ünal but his last few cameo appearances have been desperately poor. Evanilson essentially stole a goal from Cook too. Very frustrating match.

Reality check that. I think that some have been seduced by Foley’s talk of “continuous progression.” The reality is that we have sold our talisman (and the player who scored half of our goals) and replaced him with a player who is a long way from being at his level. That doesn’t on its own necessarily have to lead to decline, if we had used the funds to also improve other areas of the team, but we didn’t. We just have the same starting eleven with a far inferior striker, make no mistake, it’s going to be a real fight to stay in the league. Fortunately, there are other teams down there who look poor too, but I’d take 17th in a heartbeat.
Unal deserves a mention on his own. Can’t think of too many substitute appearances worse than that. He looked like he was running in treacle and even basic five-yard passes looked beyond him. Didn’t get a great view of his chance at the end but it looked like a pretty presentable opportunity, everything he did was poor.
“We definitely deserved something from the game, we had so many chances to get that goal”

Bossed the first 15. They scored out of the blue and gained in confidence leading to a more even remainder of the half. Dominant in the second half – can’t think of a single chance for them. Nil nil draw would have been more realistic given our profligacy in front of goal but definitely not a losing performance over 90 minutes. But as others have said we have to be more clinical and can’t afford so many key players e.g. Semenyo to be slightly off their game. – To join the conversation, click here.
