Luis Guilherme has thanked two West Ham United players in particular for helping him settle into life at the club.
West Ham brought Luis Guilherme to the London Stadium from Palmeiras in the summer transfer window for a fee believed to be worth £25 million.
Julen Lopetegui and Tim Steidten have received criticism for the signing of Guilherme from some sections of Hammers fans, due to the fact that we needed someone like Jhon Duran much more.
And it has been suggested that people high up at West Ham believe the 18-year-old is taking longer than expected to ‘come good’.
However, we’ve all got to remember that Guilherme is still a teenager. Moving to the Premier League from the Brazilian league would be a challenge for players of all ages.
In my opinion, we just need to be patient with the left-footed right winger – I firmly believe he will come good.
The former Palmeiras winger has exceptional technical ability, and as he matures and bulks up, he will become a top-class player, I have no doubts about that.
So we all just need to be patient with him. In fairness to the South American, he has spoken with great maturity about his transition into life in East London.
Luis Guilherme admits he loves two West Ham players
The teenager made his Premier League debut for the Hammers on Saturday when Lopetegui brought him on as a second-half substitute.
The Brazilian clearly has something special about him, but he needs time to adjust to life in England, and to adapt to the intensity of Premier League football.
It seems like two Hammers in particular have helped him out though.
Lucas Paqueta and Emerson Palmieri have assisted Guilherme with his move from Brazil to London.
And Guilherme thanked them both for all of their help, when speaking to WHUFC.com.
The young Brazilian said, “Lucas [Paquetá] and Emi [Emerson] have given me a lot,” Guilherme confirmed. “They are great players, and I’m proud to say they’re good friends too. They’ve helped me so much since I arrived, and I’ve had the pleasure to have gotten to know them quite well. I thank them for their support, and hopefully, bit by bit, I can give back to the team.”
That’s really nice to hear and it proves that we have some proper people amongst the playing squad.
Guilherme a star in the making
He is quite clearly an elite young talent, and was recently labelled as ‘extraordinary’ and ‘sensational’ by Paulo Buosi – the Palmeiras vice-president.
The Brazilian possesses impressive pace, stunning technical ability and has huge potential.
He might not come good for two or three years, but if we’re all patient with him, I believe we could have a big star on our hands.
As long as he continues to work hard, and applies himself properly both on and off the pitch, there’s no reason why he won’t become an important player for us.
One thing I will say is that if Lopetegui doesn’t plan on using him regularly, I would like to see him play more for the under-21s.
Or, maybe a loan move away from the London Stadium in January would be a smart move for him and the club?
Whatever happens, the West Ham fans need to give Luis Guilherme time. He will come good for us.
