Tim Steidten’s determination to see one particular deal through in August, with it’s associated diversionary bid for Manchester United’s own target Noussair Mazraoui was a complicated strategy but one which ultimately met with success in securing West Ham’s target.
Amidst all of the implied criticism of Steidten for Fullkrug, Duran etc, credit where it is due. This was a superb steal, as a report out today underlines.
When West Ham United finally signed Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Manchester United there were huge sighs of relief all around that one of the most protracted deals of the summer (second only to the Jean-Clair Todibo negotiations) had been concluded. As events have shown since, West Ham got an absolute steal for £15 million as Wan-Bissaka shows us all his class on both left and right flank, as both a full back and – surprisingly – an attacking option.
Statistics now in the Daily Express make even more embarrassing reading for Eric Ten Hag and his Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes. How we love to hear of once-lofty, dominant Manchester United being brought further down to earth.
Exposing Manchester United’s current woes, statistics have highlighted Wan-Bissaka’s attacking prowess: Bear in mind here that the very reason Ten Hag sanctioned his departure was owing to his ‘lack of ability’ going forward.
Across this fledgling Premier League season, Wan-Bissaka has already created more chances than Manchester United’s own ‘midfield maestro’ captain Fernandes.
The Express confirms “..[Fernandes’] tally for the campaign is so low that even former United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who now plays for West Ham and is not known for his attacking prowess, has notched more (seven).”
So, not only have West Ham United signed one of the best combative defenders who can play on both flanks (who knew!) but apparently a bit of a ‘creator’ too… that £15 million just looks a better and better spend as each game goes by.
I’m looking forward to a couple more chances being created by ‘The Spider’ when Manchester United visit on 27th October!
