There was a huge turnover of players in the summer at West Ham United.
Julen Lopetegui made nine new signings for West Ham, whilst 12 players left the London Stadium.
The West Ham squad is is definitely stronger now than the one that the Hammers head coach inherited three months ago.
Jhon Duran was really the only one that got away for the Hammers, as Lopetegui completely transformed the squad at the London Stadium.
In came the likes of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo, Crysencio Summerville and Max Kilman, and out went numerous big names including Kurt Zouma, Nayef Aguerd and Said Benrahma.
However, West Ham released numerous players on free transfers as well.
And one of them that was let go has experienced a tough time with his new club.
West Ham proven right by releasing 24-year-old in the summer
Joseph Anang was let go by the Hammers, after he spent seven years at the London Stadium.
The 24-year-old joined Irish Premier League side St Patricks, but he has experienced a challenging start to the season for his new club.
The Ghanaian actually trained with the first-team on numerous occasions last season, but Lopetegui clearly didn’t fancy him when he replaced David Moyes a few months ago.
I have to say, a move out to Ireland from England was the right one for the goalkeeper.
He may well have found his real level now, as harsh as that may sound.
Anang has played 13 games for St Patricks so far this season, and has conceded 14 goals, whilst keeping just four clean sheets.
It’s not that the 24-year-old is a bad goalkeeper, but more just that he is nowhere near the levels required to play Premier League football.
West Ham releasing Joseph Anang rather than handing him a new deal was undoubtedly the correct call from Lopetegui and co.
The 24-year-old’s team are currently sitting fifth in the Irish Premier League table, so he hasn’t really made a huge difference for them.
West Ham seem to be acting like a proper club in the transfer market now. And by that I mean we’re not holding onto players who aren’t good enough anymore, purely for sentimental reasons.
Onwards and upwards for the Hammers. That said, I do wish Anang all the best for his future.
