Freddie Potts left West Ham United to join Portsmouth on a season-long loan move in the summer.
West Ham midfielder Freddie Potts is extremely highly rated at the London Stadium, and he seemingly has everything needed to go on and be a big hit in the Premier League.
Freddie’s father, Steve, played well over 500 games for the Hammers, and the young midfielder will be hoping to emulate him.
Back in May, Potts boldly declared that he wanted to feature for the West Ham United first-team this season.
Whilst that won’t be the case, his future at the London Stadium looks very promising indeed.
Potts looked really bright for us during the pre-season campaign, but Julen Lopetegui clearly thought he needed regular first-team football in order to continue with his development.
So how has the Hammers youngster been getting on with Portsmouth?
John Mousinho gives opinion on West Ham starlet Freddie Potts
The Hammers midfielder has been a big hit with the fans at Fratton Park so far this season.
But what does Pompey boss John Mousinho think of the 21-year-old’s contribution to the team?
When speaking to The News, Portsmouth, Mousinho delivered his honest verdict on Potts’ start to life on the south coast.
Mousinho said, “I think Freddie has been excellent coming into the side. He struggled along with everyone at Stoke, he wasn’t the only one, it was a difficult game, but overall has been really good,”
“When you are asking a young lad to come in and play for the first time at this level, there’s going to be some adjustment, but I’ve been really pleased with him coming in off the back of not having a full pre-season.“
“He’s very calm and composed on the ball, positionally very good, and also strong enough in the tackle and in his challenges to emerge with a lot of credit as a holding midfielder. His overall game has been very, very solid.“
Potts really does have it all it seems, and a season in the Championship will do him the world of good on his journey to becoming a Premier League footballer.
Freddie Potts a star of the future for West Ham
The 21-year-old is an incredibly tenacious tackler, and he plays with real commitment and aggression.
Potts possesses the attributes that we desperately lack in central midfield right now. He has pace and power in abundance, is full of energy and stamina and has the ability to carry the ball from defence on into the final third.
Whilst it would be remiss to suggest that he is the total package, Potts definitely has the basic ingredients needed to succeed at West Ham.
In four Championship appearances for Pompey this season, the Hammers owned starlet has averaged two tackles and one interception per game. During those outings, he has made 38.8 passes per match on average and has recorded a completion rate of 81.3% (Who Scored).
As the season goes on, I fully expect the young midfielder to get better and better, and become more influential for Portsmouth.
And I cannot wait for Freddie Potts to return to West Ham as a more complete player at the end of this season.
