West Ham have been linked with AC Milan duo Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham, both of whom are under increasing scrutiny following their recent defeat to Fiorentina. According to reports, unless their performances improve, their future at Milan could be in jeopardy.
This speculation has led to rumours that Tomori might be offered to West Ham during the January transfer window. While Abraham was a summer target for the Hammers, a key club source informed Claret & Hugh that concerns over his injury record prevented any serious interest in bringing the striker to the London Stadium.
Out of the two players it is Tomori who would be of interest to the Irons who are reportedly once again on the lookout for a fourth central defender. The former Chelsea player came close to signing for West Ham four years ago but then manager David Moyes failed to give the centre back assurances about playing time.
Italian sports dailies yesterday highlighted how both Tomori and Abraham have faced heavy criticism for their form and attitude on the pitch. One pundit commented, “Tomori and Abraham need to step up or risk their Milan careers,” with the article’s subtitle noting, “The defender’s errors are mounting, and the striker isn’t scoring—both are on shaky ground.”
Milan have been under immense pressure, with manager Paolo Fonseca nearly losing his job before securing a 3-0 victory against Lecce in Serie A. West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui was interviewed for the Milan role earlier in the summer, but fan backlash led to the club pursuing other options.
