West Ham United made a very big mistake in the summer, and Tim Steidten and David Sullivan will be having nightmares about one specific decision they made.
Tim Steidten and David Sullivan worked closely together in the summer to bring in some top-class signings for West Ham head coach Julen Lopetegui.
However, one of the big misses of the summer was the Hammers’ failure to sign a young striker with explosive pace.
Niclas Fullkrug was brought to the London Stadium instead, and West Ham are said to be plotting another striker signing already in January as a result of the German’s struggles.
It’s such a shame that we’re in this position. Why has signing a top-class striker with pace and power proven to be so difficult for West Ham over the past few years?
It really didn’t have to be this way at all. Steidten and Sullivan should have got it right in the summer – there are no excuses as far as I’m concerned.
There were plenty of options out there for the Hammers, but once again, signing a talented young striker seemed like an impossible task for the club.
And one striker’s exploits on Tuesday night made the West Ham player recruitment team look very silly indeed.
Nightmare for Tim Steidten and David Sullivan after Omorodion exploits
What might have been for West Ham eh?
Samu Omorodion was in sensational form for his country on Tuesday night.
The 20-year-old scored four goals for Spain under-21s in a sensational 45-minute period during their 6-0 win over Malta.
West Ham apparently made a £30 million bid for Omorodion in the summer.
However, we failed to sign him in the end, and he eventually joined Porto from Atletico Madrid for just £13 million (The Athletic).
The powerful front-man has been in electric form for the Portuguese giants, with seven goals in seven games to his name so far.
What an error the Hammers made by not signing him in the summer.
He would have been absolutely perfect for us, what with his incredible power, superb movement, electric pace and clinical finishing ability.
Tim Steidten and David Sullivan will undoubtedly be having nightmares now about their failure to bring Samu Omorodion to West Ham in the summer transfer window.
And rightly so – missing out on the Spanish forward was a grave error from them both.
