A major social media account with 2.5m followers has asked West Ham fans a big David Moyes question in the wake of the defeat to Spurs.
It’s clear for all to see Julen Lopetegui has endured a difficult start to life as David Moyes’ successor at West Ham.
Realistically Lopetegui was always going to be on something of a hiding to nothing.
Certainly initially. And certainly if he didn’t hit the ground running.
He hasn’t done that and the price on the ticket following West Ham’s most successful manager for decades means you’re going to come under pressure.
After nearly five years of major progress in east London, Moyes’ shoes were always going to be big ones to fill at the London Stadium.
The Scot is a favourite among the media who are not letting it go that West Ham fans dared to dream of watching a more entertaining style of football.
The ‘I told you so’s’ are locked and loaded for those who told West Ham to ‘be careful what you wish for’.
Lopetegui is tasked with proving there is more to life than Moyes for the Hammers.
Ten games into his tenure, he’s not making a great fist of it.
West Ham have won just twice in the Premier League and have been dumped out of the Carabao Cup 5-1 by Liverpool – for the second season running.
A shambolic 4-1 defeat to bitter rivals Tottenham has sparked fresh speculation over Lopetegui’s position.
Now a major X account with 2.5m followers has asked West Ham fans a big Moyes question and the responses say it all.
Amid Lopetegui’s difficult start, there have been – rather inevitably – calls from some quarters to bring back Moyes for a third spell.
Many have drawn parallels between the appointment of Lopetegui and that of Manuel Pellegrini.
The Chilean, who like Lopetegui also had a short spell as Real Madrid manager on his CV, was favoured over Moyes after the Scot kept the Hammers up in his first stint.
The Hammers board decided to go back to Moyes when Pellegrini was fired.
Having already brought him back once, it has been suggested West Ham may have to eat humble pie again.
After defeat to Tottenham, Deadline Day Live asked: “West Ham fans – do you want David Moyes back?”
For the majority of West Ham fans, though, that simply isn’t an option regardless of what happens with Lopetegui.
Here’s a selection of response to the big Moyes question from Hammers supporters:
