The eruption of relief and joy around London stadium was huge when Crysencio Summerville connected to score his first goal and give West Ham a second half lead against Manchester United. The young forward had not been named in the original eleven and was controversially left on the bench until half time.
After a dreadful first 45 minutes, Lucas Paquetá was withdrawn along with Carlos Soler and Mavropanos and Summerville, Soucek and Alvarez were brought on in a remodel of the midfield which had been woeful.
The moment Summerville scored and raced to share a congratulatory hug with the player he replaced – Mohammed Kudus – was caught on camera. The joy is palpable.
Look a little left and the devastation on Lucas Paquetás face is clear to see. Whether he is in a world of pain after being hooked at half time and seeing his replacements score – or whether the impending hearings by the Brazilian authorities and the FA are just totally taking over and dominating his every waking moment – the poor guy looks absolutely beside himself.
He looks as if he needs some decent help and support from the club, because unless that’s just a trick of a lens catching a momentary expression – all is clearly not well at all chez Lucas Paquetá.
