West Ham United played host to Manchester United in the Premier League this afternoon.
All eyes were on the London Stadium for the West Ham vs Manchester United Premier League clash today.
Before kick-off, Julen Lopetegui was in desperate need of a victory, and the Hammers head coach got exactly that in the end.
Before the match, the pressure was cranked up on Lopetegui to the maximum, although Hammers News were exclusively told that the board were fully behind the Spaniard.
West Ham were cut apart time and time again by Manchester United inside the first-half, and it was a miracle that we didn’t go into the half-time break two or three down.
The second-half was like chalk and cheese for the Hammers though. The players came out and put in a top-class display.
But how did we rate them?

Here’s how Hammers News rated the players’ performances against Man United this afternoon…
Lukasz Fabianski 7
The 39-year-old goalkeeper made an excellent save from Casemiro – one that kept us in the game at the time. He also looked very shaky at times, especially when he was caught in no man’s land inside the first-half when he raced out of his goal only to be easily beaten to the ball by Diogo Dalot.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka 7
The experiment of playing him further up the pitch has to stop. He’s the best one v one defender in the league but he’s getting caught up the other end of the pitch far too often. That said, he did play deeper during the second-half and surprise, surprise, his performance improved tenfold.
Konstantinos Mavropanos 5.5
Not great but not bad from the Greece international, who stepped in for Jean-Clair Todibo today. He didn’t seem quite at it though, and was taken off after 45 minutes due to picking up a knock.
Max Kilman 6
Not his usual domineering self, Kilman looked lost at times, and didn’t seem to know whether to step up or sit back in. A lot of work is needed on the training ground with this back four.
Emerson Palmieri 6
Very average once again from the Italian, and he continues to struggle to reach the heights he hit last season.
Guido Rodriguez 6
Solid if not spectacular from the Argentinian midfielder. His lack of pace and mobility is an issue in the Premier League.
Edson Alvarez 6.5
The Mexico international looked very short of confidence when in possession of the football. That said, he tracked back very well, and snuffed out some of Man United counter attacks.
Carlos Soler 3
I have absolutely no idea why Lopetegui played him out on the left wing. Soler was awful today, but I have to say that he wasn’t given a fair chance to impress. He needs to play in the middle if he is going to thrive for West Ham. Rightly hooked at the break.
Lucas Paqueta 5
Another poor display from the Brazilian and he picked up yet another needless yellow card. It was absolutely no surprise to me that he was hooked at half-time. Needs to be dropped from the starting XI asap.
Jarrod Bowen 7
Didn’t really get into the game, especially in the first-half. Not good enough from the skipper in my opinion. However, he scored our winning goal from the spot under huge pressure, so he deserves credit for that.
Michail Antonio 5.5
Another poor day at the office for our centre-forward, in spite of some really bright moments inside the second-half. Something needs to change quickly if Antonio is to remain as Lopetegui’s preferred option to fill in for Niclas Fullkrug.

Crysencio Summerville 9
An electric performance from the 22-year-old. He was a real live-wire throughout the entire second-half and caused Man United’s defence all sorts of problems. Summerville scored the all important goal as well. He simply has to start against Nottingham Forest next weekend.
Jean-Clair Todibo 7
The Frenchman looked much more accomplished than Mavropanos, and he also has to start against Forest.
Tomas Soucek 6
As is usually the case, his play was incredibly clunky at times, but he put 100 per cent effort in. You can never knock Soucek for his work-rate!
Danny Ings 6.5
The 32-year-old won us the penalty late on in the game, and for that, he deserves his flowers.
It was a tough day at the office for the Hammers this afternoon, there’s no doubt about that.

There were big improvements in the second-half from the boys though, and I think it’s important to point that out.
The 2-1 win over Manchester United was just what West Ham needed, but the player ratings were a real mixed bag in the end.
