West Ham United attacker Crysencio Summerville has just been compared to Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland.
But not in a good way…
Crysencio Summerville has been the subject of rave reviews over the past week, after his sensational second-half performance for West Ham against Manchester United.
One of his former coaches has just described the 23-year-old Hammers winger as an extraordinary and unique talent who has world-class potential.
His 45-minute cameo display against Manchester United sent a real message to Julen Lopetegui.
Summerville quite simply has to start the next four or five games in a row for the Hammers at the very least.
Let’s see what he’s got.
One thing’s for sure, he’s very highly rated by those who have worked closely with him.
West Ham ace Crysencio Summerville compared to Erling Haaland
Haaland, 24, is the best striker in the world bar none.
His record speaks for itself, with an incredible 239 goals and 50 assists in 294 club games to his name so far.
The Manchester City star has also scored 34 goals in 37 appearances for Norway.
Much of his success now is credited to his decision to join Borussia Dortmund from RB Salzburg in January 2020, rather than jumping straight into one of the biggest teams in the world, like Man City or Real Madrid.
And former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, who has coached both Summerville and Haaland, believes that the 23-year-old could be following a similar path to the Norwegian, as quoted by The Athletic.
Marsch said,
“I’m happy for Crysencio and rooting for him to do well at West Ham. I couldn’t help but smile when he scored against Manchester United. He deserved a move to a Premier League side and West Ham is a team he can really grow at. When I coached Erling Haaland, he and his father had a sense of mapping out the right steps for his career. Before Erling left Salzburg, he could’ve joined one of the big clubs, but his father wanted him to have the opportunity to fail and learn.“
“It reminds me of Crysencio joining West Ham, which is a perfect step for him to develop into a big player. When you get to a new club as a young player, it can be hard to establish yourself. But in the big moment against Manchester United, he showed he can be counted on.”
So Jesse Marsch is suggesting that West Ham is a stepping stone for Summerville on the way to bigger and better things.
I have to say, I’m not sure I agree with him.
Crysencio Summerville is a very good player, but is he at the elite level like Erling Haaland is? Obviously not is the answer to that question.
I think the Dutchman will be with us for a few more years still to come, and probably longer.
Summerville still has to prove himself as a consistent performer for West Ham before anything else.
